We made several modifications to the original proposal such as adding a geothermal heating and cooling system, increasing the ceiling heights to a minimum of nine feet, increasing the number of parking stalls, and reducing the total number of units in the Mahogany at Mill Lake Abbotsford condo project. On March 15th, 2010, Abbotsford City Council voted 5-4 in favour of receiving the revised Mahogany at Mill Lake Abbotsford real estate development proposal, thus setting the stage for it to now proceed to Public Hearing. The Mahogany at Mill Lake Public Hearing date will not be confirmed until the proposal has passed its first reading by council in mid-April, but the tentative date is April 26th, 2010. There is a long way to go before the new Abbotsford Mahogany at Mill Lake condo project will be able to evolve from vision to reality. Greater Vancouver Presales Condos draw first-time homebuyers

The condo industry is booming in Vancouver thanks in part to young homebuyers unwilling to give up their urban lifestyle for the suburbs, according to RE/MAX report released yesterday. The Re/Max Condominium Report found that the condo in Vancouver lifestyle chalked up some of the most impressive gains in residential real estate in 2007, with condo values up across the country.

Lori Haggarty, a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker who specializes in condos and townhouses, said that the social aspect of Vancouver condos and pace of city living is a big draw for young, first-time homebuyers. “A lot of my clients are looking for more of a community environment and kind of want to run into their neighbours and be around like-minded people,” she said. Haggarty added that condos are also a more practical means of homeownership in a city where housing prices are the highest in the country.

“If you’re looking for a starter home in the $500,000 to $700,000 range, in a condo you can probably do a lot better,” she said. Haggarty said condos in Vancouver also offer little bells and whistles like granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances, which you don’t find in starter homes.
