Vancouver 2010 Accommodation Concerns
- Possible Olympic Housing Problems in Vancouver and Whistler
As the Vancouver 2010 Olympics approach, there
are problems concerning the affordability and number of rental
2010 units in all host cities. With VANOC reserving most of the
downtown Vancouver 2010 hotel suites, the only rental accommodation
left in both Vancouver and Whistler seems to be apartments, townhouses
and single family homes owned by local homeowners and investors
in addition to 2010 hostels and alternative housing. Below are
the most recent articles pertaining to problems with Vancouver
2010 accommodation concerns.
2010 Olympic Accommodation Concerns Mounting
The latest report from Whistler and Vancouver have indicated that
officials are worried about the number of housing units made available
to Vancouver 2010 visitors. According to Bob M of 24 Hours Vancouver
magazine, authorities are scrambling to ease the rent 2010 Winter
Olympic accommodation concerns as the June 6th, 2009 sale of 150,000
Olympic tickets nears. VANOC, Tourism Whistler, Whistler Housing
Authority as well as the Resort Municipality of Whistler will
update media on spectator, workforce and resident lodging plans
for Vancouver 2010 rent accommodations during the Winter Games
today as it has become an increasingly worrisome issue for city
planners, visitors and tourists to the city. Last November 2008,
VANOC sought small cruise ships to be berthed at Squamish for
as many as 500 Winter Olympic Games works. In addition VANOC advertised
Friday for expressions of interest for temporary 2010 hostel rooms
from November 15, 2009 to March 15, 2010. VANOC pledged another
quarter of a million dollars for low budget rental 2010 accommodations
geared towards temporary workers and youth who can afford these
rent 2010 housing suites. Two locations for winter 2010 Olympic
housing planned would accommodate as many as 400 guests during
the Vancouver Whistler Games. June 22 is the bid deadline for
these temporary low-budget 2010 hostel suites. Applications by
Vancouver landlords and home owners looking to rent 2010 accommodation
for temporary, 30 day rental licences opened on May 15, 2009.
The $106 rental 2010 fee for landlords covers the June 1st, 2009
to March 31st, 2010 period for dwellings not already occupied
by tenants. Tourism Vancouver advocated alternative 2010 rental
accommodation because it is estimated that there are only five
hundred and fifty downtown Vancouver 2010 hotel rooms available
during the Winter Games.
Whistler 2010 Olympic Housing Concerns and Accommodation
Challenges
With many reports out of Vancouver talking about the shortage
of affordable 2010 rental accommodation, the latest on the Whistler
2010 housing concerns and availability of affordable Whistler
Olympic rentals has just come out as published by 24 Hours by
Bob M. According to the latest statistics, apparently there are
enough 2010 rooms in Whistler for the Olympic sponsors, media,
sports execs, media and other tourists coming for the 2010 Winter
Games. Tourism Whistler VP Diana said that respondents to a survey/poll
of six hundred people waitlisted for Whistler 2010 Games accommodations
said that they would pay up to thirty to fifty per cent premiums
on peak season rates to get a Whistler 2010 rental home or room
during February 2010. Since March 1st, 2009, there has been already
approximately one million dollars worth of confirmed bookings
for Whistler 2010 rentals and hotel accommodation. Prices for
the average Whistler Olympic 2010 accommodations range from three
hundred to six hundred dollars per bedroom per night. Right now,
finding beds for volunteers and workers remains a challenge and
it definitely will not come at a cheap price. The three thousand
Whistler 2010 room goal at nineteen separate properties in the
resort for the Olympic family has already been met according to
VANOC and they are still seeking one thousand free 2010 Whistler
rooms or suites in private dwellings from the North Shore to Pemberton
for the Games’ Sea-To-Sky work force. Right now, about a
hundred home owners have already applied for free tickets in exchange
for free Whistler and Vancouver 2010 rooms, but more applicants
are required to meet the demand. There are also plans to berth
a Squamish 2010 cruise ship for workforce, but that is currently
being reviewed. Only three Whistler landlords have applied under
an exemption that allows nightly workforce accommodation rentals,
according to Whistler.
